The course examines the politics and policies of migration and asylum in the European Union, taking into consideration both contemporary developments and their historical antecedents. Students are acquainted with major scholarly debates in the field as well as with recent political developments around the so-called refugee crisis in the EU. The course places particular importance on the interplay between various areas of EU migration policy, including asylum, labour migration, irregular migration, border security and migrant integration policy. Students also familiarize with the crucial connections and conflicts between the different levels of migration and asylum governance in the EU.
